Policies and Procedures

Student Absence Policy
Remember it is the parent's responsibility to call in to school when your child will be late or absent from school. You may call at anytime, day or night. The ABSENCE LINE IS 467-5410. Please leave the child's name, your name, reason for absence, teacher and the phone number where you can be reached.

The following policies for absences will be in effect this school year:

  1. If your child is going to be absent, you must call school on the attendance line; 467-5410. A reason for the absence must be included in the message. This is a ruling issued by the Department of Elementary and Secondary education. This is also for your child's protection so we know you are aware that your child is not in school. If you wish, you may leave the message the night before on the recorder. The school will contact you if your child is absent and we have not heard from a parent or guardian. Students may not call in their own absences.
  2. If your child accumulates five absences in one quarter or is tardy five times in one quarter, the Mehlville District social workers will assist in resolving issues that may be keeping your child out of school. Arriving to school after the bell (8:05 a.m.) constitutes a tardy. Tardiness will be documented daily. Leaving before (2:50 p.m.) is also counted against attendance. Early departures will be excused for medical or dental appointments, but will be unexcused for sports practice, music lessons, etc.

A few more things you might need to know...

Signing your child in or out:
In the event that you need to pick your child up earlier, please come to the office to sign your child out. We will call them to the office for you. Please do not go to the classroom as we are protecting instruction time and trying to keep interruptions to a minimum. If arriving late to school, you must come to the office to sign your child in.

Going home a different way:
We are happy to accommodate your child in any way we can, as long as we have a note on file. If the student does not have a note he/she must ride the bus home or go home in whatever is their normal routing. There will be no bus passes handed out. All buses are near capacity and Transportation Department has issued a "NO PASS" policy for safety of the students.

Bringing your child to school:
All doors are opened to students at 7:45 am with full supervision provided. Please arrive after that to keep all of our students safe. Please be sure to follow the safety rules on the parking lot when dropping or picking up your child and remember to drive behind the school to the pick up/drop off zone. No child should be dropped off at the front of the building. This is for the buses to load and unload and could put the child at risk. Any questions you may have, please call the office, 467-5400.

School Lunch
Our Beasley cafeteria is wonderful! We provide a nutritious breakfast ($1.00) and lunch ($2.30/$2.50 on branded pizza days) daily for our students. We serve our students with a pre-pay system so no students carry cash. Please send in money in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, teacher, date and the amount closed. If you have any questions, just give us a call.

Dismissal/Arrival Policy
Students who must leave school before the end of the school day must be signed out in the office by a parent/guardian before leaving the building. A student will not be dismissed directly from the class. Parents are urged not to go to the classroom without permission as this can disrupt instruction.

WELLNESS POLICY
This is a reminder of the Mehlville Wellness Policy.  This policy is in effect for all parties, birthdays and activities during the school day.

WELLNESS POLICY
The Mehlville School District adopted an Allergy Prevention and Response Plan in July 2011.  One of the components of this plan is to be aware of all food items and their ingredients that are served in our schools.  If parents wish to have their child celebrate his/her birthday with their classmates, they must purchase safe/healthy treats through School Food and Nutrition Services.  There are several individually wrapped food items to choose from with nutritional labels.  The prices on the birthday treat order form are the prices the district pays.  The snacks will be delivered to the child's classroom on a mutually agreed upon date & time with the teacher.  Parents are to complete the order form and return it to   school cafeteria 2 weeks prior to the date needed.  If parents have any questions, please have them call the SFNS office at 467-5250.
