Dear Beasley Jaguars,

Beasley uses The Zones of Regulation® curriculum (or “The Zones”
for short), which are lessons and activities designed by Leah Kuypers, licensed occupational therapist, to help him/her gain skills in the area of self-regulation. Self-regulation can go by many names, such as self-control, self management,
and impulse control. It is defined as the best state of alertness of both the body and emotions for the specific situation. For example, when a student plays on the playground or in a competitive game, it is beneficial to have a higher state of alertness. However, that same state would not be appropriate in the library. The lessons and learning activities are designed to help the students recognize when they are in the different zones as well as learn how to use strategies to change or stay in the zone they are in. In addition to addressing self-regulation, the
students will gain an increased vocabulary of emotional terms, skills in reading other people’s facial expressions, perspective about how others see and react to their behavior, insight into events that trigger their behavior, calming
and alerting strategies, and problem solving skills. Click for the Zones poster.  You can support your student during this process by doing the following:
• Use the language and talk about the concepts of The Zones as they apply to you in a variety of environments. Make comments aloud so the student understands it is natural that we all experience the different zones and use strategies to control (or regulate) ourselves. For example, “This is really frustrating me and making me go into the Yellow Zone. I need to use a tool to calm down. I will take some deep breaths.”  Please try to use this language at home.

Beasley’s Best Assemblies 2019-2020
Our Beasley Best assemblies will continue to be based on 4 of our High Five words.  Listed below are the assembly dates and character word. All assemblies are at 8:15 a.m.
Thursday, October 10 - Responsible
Friday, December 20- Respectful
Monday, March 9- Kind
Wednesday, May 20 (last day of school)- Cooperative
Classrooms select 3 students who have displayed these behaviors most consistently from their classes for each time period.  These students will be recognized at the Beasley's Best assembly.   Parents and other family members are invited to attend.  Your child will bring home a letter if they receive a Beasley’s Best recognition.

Classroom Parties
There will be three classroom parties this year.  All parents are welcome to attend and may be asked to help by the room parent.
Here are the party dates and times.
Thursday, October 31 from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Thursday, December 19 from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Thursday, February 13 from 1:00-2:00 p.m.

We are very excited to tell you that Beasley is making home visits to our students.  Did you know that each year children spend less than 13% off their time in school and about 54% (when not sleeping) out of school, at home, with family and friends?  Children need teachers and parents working together for them to do well in school.  The home visit program allows teachers to get to know you, the parents of our students, and for you to get to know us better.  Our goal is to build even stronger relationships between families and school.
One of your child’s teachers and another member of our staff would like to visit you.  We will want you to brag about your child and share information that only you can, because no one knows your child better than you do.  Home visits are so much more than a regular parent-teacher conference because teachers can gain even more insight into your child’s strengths and learning needs from you.  We are excited about visiting you and forming an even stronger partnership between home and school.  Please contact your child’s teacher today to set up a home visit.
